Humanity - Societas Humanitatis Association was founded in February 2006 to support and improve with their activities and projects the development of social care in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The founding of the Humanity Association implied the continuation of work of German humanitarian organizations Pax Christi, German section (www.paxchristi.de) and Flüchtlingshilfe Langen (FHL) – Aid to Refugees from Langen (www.fhl-langen.de), which had been active in Zenica and the Central Bosnia for years.  The founders of the Association themselves were associates of those two organizations in Zenica over several years. In their project activities, the organizations were focused on the population of refugees and displaced persons, primarily those who lived in collective settlements and housing centres. The projects led by these two organizations were implemented in cooperation with the relevant local authorities, always bearing in mind the balance between the needs and interests of the refugee and the local population.

The Association sees primarily parts of Central Bosnia as the regional focal point of their activities. In their work, the Association focuses on the social groups who live on the edge of the social and financial existence, whose survival is brought into question without the aid provided by the social community and state institutions. Accordingly, the Association projects target children of pre-school and school age, young and adults with special needs, as well as the elderly, the feeble and displaced persons without the capacity to return to their pre-war homes.
